Bloody snot is usually also called nosebleeds by the public. Although it looks scary, but nosebleeds are common and rarely are caused by serious conditions. Taking blood-thinning drugs, such as aspirin, and taking antihistamine or decongestant drugs that can make your nose feel dry, can also make it easier for nosebleeds.

How to Overcome Bloody Mucus

For runny nose caused by common causes above, you can overcome it with the following steps:
  • Stay seated upright with your head higher than your heart. Do not lie down.
  • Lean forward slightly with your head not looking up so that the blood does not flow back to the throat which can cause you to choke on blood. Slowly blow a blood clot out of your nose.
  • Pinch the soft part of the nose with the thumb and index finger. Give a little pressure while still pinching the nose. You can breathe through your mouth while doing this.
  • Hold for 5-10 minutes and repeat until the blood stops.
  • Compress the nose and cheek area with ice wrapped in a cloth.
The thing you need to remember is, it is not recommended to stuff your nose with tissue or cotton. There are some special drugs and sprays as first aid for nasal obstruction and mild bleeding, but people with high blood pressure should be careful. Use according to instructions for use or doctor's advice. Examples of medications that can be consumed include oxymetazoline nasal drops. Bloody mucus or nosebleeds can seem scary, but it's best to stay calm. Take proper care to treat nosebleeds. But you need to immediately see a doctor if there are certain conditions that accompany a nosebleed namely: the nosebleeds do not stop, bleeding very much, fever, headache, there is a history of head or facial injuries.
